The Beginning of Katsurahina

Kio — Art Name of Kishi Kosahata
First-Generation Artisan

The craftsmanship of Katsurahina began with a single encounter by its founder,
Kishi Osahata (art name: Kio).

It was an encounter with a land steeped in imperial legend.
The place he visited was at the foot of Gozenyama, once known as “Katsura Village.”
Often referred to as the “Arashiyama of the Kanto region,”
this area retains many place names—such as Gozenyama and Miyakogawa—that evoke the elegance of the ancient capital.

Moved by a landscape where nature and history quietly coexist,
the founder decided to establish his workshop there.
In time, he adopted the name “Katsura,” with its refined resonance,
and named his hina dolls “Katsurahina.”

To carry forward the courtly costume culture and the refined aesthetics of color from Kyoto,
and to pass them on to the present from this pure land of Katsura—
this is the origin of Katsurahina.
